Disqus: How to Sign Up for Disqus
Disqus is a web service that offers a robust comment environment for your website or blog. It also offers spam filtering (which typically works much better than Wordpress' filtering) and analytics, among other features, as well as enabling users who create a Disqus account to follow your blog.
If you are interested in adding Disqus to your website or blog, please notify us first, as we may need to discuss how it will fit into your site. Once you have heard from us, please follow these steps:
- Begin the website registration process with Disqus by visiting this link: https://disqus.com/admin/signup/
- Enter the information you would like to use in the first and second steps (your unique Disqus URL does not have to exactly match your real website). Remember to write down your unique Disqus URL, as this is something that we will need from you.
- After you click Finish registration at the end of the second step, you will be prompted to choose your platform. Select the option titled "Universal Code." This will take you to a page that has setup instructions.
- At this point, please create an email to us at webhelp@heroweb.com. Copy and paste the code from the grey boxes on the setup instructions page into the email. We will need both the code that follows the words “Place the following code where you’d like Disqus to load” and the code that is listed in step 1 of “How to display comment count.” Also, make sure to include your unique Disqus URL in the email.
- After you have sent us the email, we will need to make a few changes to the templates of your website. Your comments feature should be active shortly!
While you are waiting for your comments section to go live, you may want to start customizing your comment environment by clicking the button on the setup instructions page titled "Continue to the getting started guide." The guide will give you instructions on how to customize the look of your comments section, moderation preferences, guest commenting, and more.
