Setting Up Shipping in v5.0+

MightyMerchant v5.0+ offers real-time rates through USPS, UPS, FedEx, and Stamps. For each of these methods, you will need to sign up for an account with the provider(s) you wish to use, then enter information in your Shipping Manager ("shipping" in your Site Manager).

Please note these important points:

  1. In order to utilize the shipping methods below, your site will need to be on v5.0 or later of MightyMerchant. If your site is not yet on v5.0, please contact support for an upgrade.
  2. All of these methods are weight-based. You will need to enter weights for all products in order for the real-time rates to calculate correctly. Products that are over-sized or ship in their own container will likely need additional specifications entered.
  3. All of these methods require that you first enter your Default Ship Settings. Please complete that step before moving on.

Entering Your Default Ship Settings

1. Click the "shipping" link in your MightyMerchant navigation bar.

2. Click the "Default Ship Settings" button.

3. Fill in the following information.

Setting up USPS Real-Time Rates

1. Register for a USPS Web Tools account.

https://registration.shippingapis.com/

After you register, you should receive an email with your USPS Web Tools user
name. The email will have a bunch of instructions for doing some
testing, but you don't need to do that.

2. Call or email the Internet Customer Care Center (ICCC) with the following request:
“Please move User ID {Insert your Web Tools User ID here} to the
production server.”

ICCC Contact Information:
E-mail: uspstechnicalsupport@mailps.custhelp.com
Telephone: 1-800-344-7779

If they tell you that you need to do testing before they can move you to
production, tell them you are using a shopping cart called
MightyMerchant that uses RocketShip It.

Once the account is moved to production, move on to step 3.

3. Before you proceed, make sure you have followed the instructions above in "Enter Your Default Shipping Settings." Without those settings, our system will not be able to retrieve the correct shipping options.

4. Under "shipping", click the USPS Settings tab and enter your USPS Web Tools user name, then save.

5. On the main "shipping" page, there will be a list of available USPS shipping methods. Check off the methods you wish to offer. If you are doing international shipping, make sure you choose USPS Standard and at least one of the International options.

6. Do some testing. Rates can be modified by adding a handling charge or percentage markup to each method. Click the edit link next to a specific method to make adjustments.

Setting Up UPS Real-Time Rates

Note: You will need to follow these instructions, even if you signed up for UPS Online Tools for an earlier version of MightyMerchant.

2. Under "shipping", click the UPS Settings tab and follow the online wizard.

3. On the main "shipping" page, there will be a list of available UPS shipping methods. Check off the methods you wish to offer.

4. Do some testing. Rates can be modified by adding a handling charge or
percentage markup to each method. Click the edit link next to a
specific method to make adjustments.

Setting Up FedEx Real Time Rates

1. You will need to obtain a developer key and password for your FedEx account by navigating to the FedEx Developer Resource Center and following these step-by-step instructions: https://support.mightymerchant.com/shop/wpimages/fedex-instructions.pdf

2. Before you proceed, make sure you have followed the instructions above in "Enter Your Default Shipping Settings." Without those settings, our system will not be able to retrieve the correct shipping options.

3. Under "shipping" in your site manager, click the FedEx Settings tab and enter your account number, meter number, developer key and password, etc., then save. Below are explanations of other key fields:

  • Use My Negotiated Rates/Use FedEx List Rates — If you have any discounts associated with your FedEx account, you can choose “Use My Negotiated Rates” to pass those discounts along to your customer. If you want to just display the normal rates, choose “Use FedEx List Rates"
  • Maximum Package Weight — At the time this documentation was written, 150lbs was the maximum weight for FedEx U.S. package shipping. You may choose to enter that number as your maximum package weight. However, if you limit your packages to a lower weight, entering that weight here will help FedEx return more accurate rates.
  • Default Package Dimensions — Enter your typical package dimensions here. If there are some items that ship in a larger package than you have listed, you can specify that on a per item basis by editing that item in the site manager, and filling out the package specs fields.

4. On the main "shipping" page, there will be a list of available FedEx
shipping methods. Check off the methods you wish to offer.

5. Do some testing. Rates can be modified by adding a handling charge or
percentage markup to each method. Click the edit link next to a
specific method to make adjustments.

Setting Up USPS Real-Time Rates Via Your Stamps Account

1. Under "shipping", click the Stamps Settings tab and enter your Stamps user name and password.

2. On the main "shipping" page, there will be a list of available Stamps shipping methods. Check off the methods you wish to offer.

3. Do some testing. Rates can be modified by adding a handling charge or
percentage markup to each method. Click the edit link next to a
specific method to make adjustments.

Note: Stamps returns rates that are normally lower than USPS. If you do not use Stamps rates for your actual shipping, you may want to use USPS instead.
