Determining the URL of a Web Page

Determining the URL of a Web Page

Creating links to other pages on your website (internal links) or to other websites (external links) are easy to create once you determine the URL (the web "address") of the page you want to link to, and by following a few basic steps.

URLs for Internal Links

To determine the URL for an internal page:

Go to the page you want to link to and look at the URL shown in the browser. Each URL will contain "home" followed by a 3- or 4-letter code we refer to as your store id.

    1. If the page contains "home/store id/" in the URL, you only need the part of the URL after "home/store id/".

    Example
    The page URL is
    "http://somesite.com/home/ss1/smartlist_8/flowers.html"
     or
    "http://somesite.com/home/ss1_123456/smartlist_8/flowers.html"
The part of the URL to use is: "smartlist_8/flowers.html."

    2. If the page URL does not contain "home/store id/" then you need the
    entire URL for your link.

    Example
    The page URL is "http://somesite.com/filename.html"

Use the entire URL (http://somesite.com/filename.html) for the link.

URLs for External Links

To determine the URL for an external page:
  • Go to the page you want to link to and copy the URL from the location bar of your browser.
