Getting the Right Tools

If you are going to be putting images on your site on a regular basis, you will want to invest in an image editing program.

A great program that runs on the Macintosh is:

Graphic Converter: www.lemkesoft.com/en/index.htm
This program will allow you to do all basic image cropping and scaling.

Some of the names of programs available for Windows are:

IrfanView: www.irfanview.com
This is a very basic image editing program that can be used to view and resize images. It's a free download.
Photoshop Elements: www.adobe.com/products/photoshopel/main.html
Reasonably-priced image-editing program with text and drawing capabilities. A good option.
PaintShop Pro: www.jasc.com/products/?
Mid-range image-editing program.
Fireworks: www.macromedia.com/software/fireworks/
Higher end graphics program for creating/editing images for web use. Can also produce animated graphics.

The tasks you will need to do should be quite basic, so you will probably not need a high end program (i.e. Photoshop).
