File Specifications

Please follow these specifications for best results:

    1. Either hire a professional photographer or educate yourself in what it involves to take high quality photos. Here is a good resource: www.tabletopstudio.com/

    2. Save all photographic images as JPG images. Drawing, text, or images with few colors can be saved as GIF images.

    3. The image names should have no spaces in them and no special characters (!@#$%^&*()). The names should be comprised only of letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores, and end in a ".jpg" suffix. For example: "RedShirt_3.jpg", "123446.jpg", or "red-123455.jpg" are all good file names.

    4. Develop a consistent naming scheme. This will make it much easier for you to manage the site over time. If possible, use your product ID/SKU numbers for your image names, or, the product name.

    5. Our software will automatically generate thumbnail (small-sized) images for you. We usually display a small image first and when the user clicks it, they see a large image. Ideally, the images you upload to the site will be no more than 400x400 pixels.

    6. Consider the background color of the website. It is important that the images work well with the background color so the products look their best.

    7. If you are having film developed, get it developed to a PhotoCD. This will save you from the time and effort involved with scanning your photos.

    8. High Resolution images are not necessary for the web. The whole subject of image resolution is a little bit tricky, but ordinarily the file size of the images you upload to the website shouldn't be more than 200-300k. The pixel dimensions shouldn't be more than about 400x400. These are just rough estimates. If you are selling something like jewelry, in which the detail is very important, you might want to have larger images.

When you are working with your images, it is best to change the resolution of the image to 72 pixels per inch first before cropping and sizing.
