Short URLs in MightyMerchant v4.4+
Setting Up Optimized URLsFor each category or item you create in the Site Manager, you will need to enter a unique optimized page name. This field is directly under the Category or Item Name field in the Site Manager. If you enter a name that has already been used by another category or item in the Site Manager, you'll get a message that you need to choose another name. This new field is not available using "fast add" or "edit in list"; it's only accessible if you add one category or item at a time, or when you edit a single category or item. Default Optimized NamesWhen your site is created, it will have set a default optimized name for all of the existing categories and items, which are basically the category or item name separated by dashes. For example, "My Category" becomes "my-category". You can override these defaults any time you like, to make them clearer, or more search engine friendly, as long as they are unique. Why Are Some URLs LongerYou may still see some of the longer urls when navigating through your site. You'll mostly notice these when accessing an item detail page on the website. This is to make sure the breadcrumb navigation works properly when accessing an item that appears in multiple categories. If you give the url address to someone, you can give them the long or short version - both will work.Setting Up Links Within Your ContentLink To FieldsWhen you're filling in a Link To field (like in the Announcements), you can use the short version entered in the optimized name field. Using the html editor When you're adding a link through the html editor, you can just use the short version entered in the optimized name field. Exceptions for _main.html pages If you are creating a link to a page that ends in _main.html, such as you will need to enter the ENTIRE url address.
